# How TinMic works

TinMic turns speech into text in the active Mac app.

Workflow:
1. The user presses a global hotkey.
2. TinMic captures microphone audio while the user dictates.
3. Speech-to-text runs locally on the Mac.
4. TinMic inserts the finished text into the active field.

macOS permissions:
- Microphone permission lets TinMic capture audio while dictating.
- Accessibility permission lets TinMic use a system-wide hotkey, position the overlay, and insert text into the active Mac app.

TinMic services are used for secure download links, license validation, release notes, update checks, and authorized update downloads. Those calls do not include microphone audio or transcript content.
